Margaret Warfield

Primary Discipline -

Painting

As an artist, I’m inspired by the resilience and dignity of people and the stories they carry. I create work that invites viewers to pause, reflect, and connect.

“Allow art to speak to you, because it has already spoken to the artist.”

A Few of My Favorites
A Lifelong Practice

Since the early 1980s, my work has centered on creating pieces on canvas, paper, and clay.

Much of my early work drew from childhood memories—
landscapes inspired by the hills of Tennessee—
using oil paints and, at times, pastels.

Over the years, I transitioned to acrylics, drawn to their ability to quickly build rich, vibrant color across the surface.

Evolving Inspiration

In the early 1990s, my work took a new direction.

Through time spent researching African culture in bookstores and libraries, I began creating scenes of African tribesmen and women. During this period, I discovered a deep love for depicting cloth—
flowing fabrics that bring movement, texture, and life to each figure.

The Heart of My Work

The women I paint represent strength at the core of family and community.

They embody wisdom, resilience, and love—
offering a foundation for future generations to stand on.

They are powerful and vibrant, deeply connected to both our past and our present.
