Wes Whitney
Primary Discipline -
Painting
Wes Whitney is an Oxford, Georgia artist specializing in acrylic animal and portrait paintings. After a 45-year career in graphic design, he now paints full time, creating expressive works that range from richly colored compositions to dramatic black-and-white pieces with bold color accents.
Painting has always been the truest way for me to express myself beyond words. Inspired by music, nature, and everyday life, I use acrylics to capture the beauty, emotion, and individuality I see in both people and animals. Whether working in bold color or a quieter palette, my goal is to create work that feels honest, expressive, and meaningful.

A Few of My Favorites

Wes Whitney is a self-taught painter based in Oxford, Georgia whose artistic journey spans a lifetime of creativity and expression. Although he has worked in many mediums over the years, his primary focus today is acrylic painting.
After spending 45 years as a graphic designer, Wes retired and devoted himself fully to painting. His work centers primarily on animals and portraiture, often blending rich, expressive color palettes with striking black-and-white compositions accented by selective color.
Inspired by music, nature, and the individuality of his subjects, Wes approaches each painting as both a technical challenge and a personal expression. His work seeks to capture emotion, personality, and the quiet beauty found in everyday life.
Wes is currently a gallery member of Southern Heartland Art Gallery in Covington, Georgia. His artwork has earned multiple awards, including a Fine Art Merit Award at the 2025 Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia. He also provided the cover artwork for the 2026 Winter Issue of Newton Community Magazine.
